Run a link checker across the site to check for broken links.

What about http://drupal.org/project/linkchecker ? I have installed the module.  The report is located here: http://surrey.lug.org.uk/admin/reports/linkchecker

It is configured to run every day.  We can configure the module to unpublish information etc - but I have currently accepted the basic install options - please feel free to review, re-configure or suggest another tool.
