Mail Thread Grub

This needs tidying up, but is the gist of a thread on the mail list about Grub:

[chuckle]! :-)

Thanks Paul and Steve, you've given me the confidence to go ahead this eve.
If you don't hear from me again it means all went well... or so badly that
Gill is on trial for murder!

It crosses my mind that this topic would make a perfect little development
project for me, if only I knew more about gnu development. :-( It should
be a SMoP to create a little gui utility that shows the various boot options
from menu.lst, a couple of buttons to move entries up and down, a button to
select the default entry, an advanced button that brings up another dialog
to set timeout and other options...

In fact it sounds so simple someone must have done it already. But how
would we ever find it?

paul@wren:~$ apt-cache show grubconf
Package: grubconf

grubconf is a Gnome2 based GNU GRUB configuration editor. It provides
an easy to use interface allowing effortless modification of OS's and
the flexibility to configure the most obscure options. Designed to
require minimal user interaction while providing tools for the most
adventurous user.

:-) Well, if someone can come up with a GPL Sudoko program as good
as the (paid for) one she uses on Windows...

Both are not that bad. Well, my dad seems quite impressed.

In the mean time I have come across two more nuggets of Grub info.
uncomment the line:
#hiddenmenu
and it will boot into the default without showing the menu at all.
Press esc to see it.

There is a Webmin module for onfiguring Grub

I have GNOME Sudoku 0.3.2 on my Ubuntu. No idea if it is as good as
your non-free version.

{ 2005.09.04 } GrubConf Has Retired
A project, Gnome System Tool, includes a grub configuration utility
which I would recommend people use instead of gurbconf.

;)

PS: Gnome.org seems to be down at the moment, but I've seen the
system tools before and the Grub ("bootloader") configuration tool
seemed pretty simple and capable. I found a screenshot via trusty GIS
